June Service Stars

Each month Kerbey Lane Cafe honors two Service Stars. These are team members who exemplify the KLC core values, who lend an extra helping hand, and who are all ‘round awesome people. They are certainly worthy of a spot on our blog. Check them out!

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

About a year and a half.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

The community of people. At the UT location there is a rotating cast of people, so I’m always getting to meet new friends and everyone here has each other’s backs.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you as a volunteer.

I believe it’s really important to do things that aren’t for yourself and aren’t motivated by money. I enjoy helping others and learning new skills.

What causes do you care most about?

Education-related causes. I’m currently in a teacher prep program.

Which volunteer opportunity that Kerbey has offered have you enjoyed the most?

Helping to expand a school garden at a local Austin school.

Why do you think Kerbey Lane makes giving back one of its priorities?

Because Kerbey has been around for so long, I believe they want to give back to the community that has supported them throughout the years.

What’s your spirit animal?

A possum, because they’re sneaky and they like to sleep all day if possible.

What’s your favorite pancake flavor?

Vegan Vanilla with a cinnamon swirl and blueberries.

Service Star Team Member: Brandon Dill

Find him at: our Southwest location

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

9 months.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

The people I get to interact with on a regular basis–both customers and my fellow team members.

Tell me about one of your favorite moments at Kerbey.

We had a guy stand up and serenade his wife on their anniversary. His wife sat at the table and cried. It was pretty adorable.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you to give great service to guests.

I genuinely care about people and want their experience to be how I’d want mine to be.

Are there any skills you use as a team member here at Kerbey that come in handy during everyday life?

Yes–you must communicate, communicate, communicate. I’m able to read situations and people to figure out what they need and that is also super helpful when it comes to waiting tables.

What’s your favorite pancake flavor?

Beignet.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

I’ve always wanted the ability to be invisible. There are so many things you could do if you were invisible that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to do.

Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you?

I’m going to be a first-time dad to a little girl in August, and I’m really excited about that.

Congratulations to our June Service Stars!
