Austin cafe service star

Service Star Team Member: Chris Cobler

Find him at: our Southwest location

“Chris Cobler had a table of three guests who looked completely defeated from the start of their visit. He also noticed that they smelled of smoke and one of them was clothed in his pajamas. He soon learned that this married couple’s house had burned down the night before. The third guest was their friend, chauffeuring them around town in their time of need. Cobler didn’t waste any time—he came to me to ensure their meal would be comped as part of our ‘Guest Appreciation’ program; but he didn’t stop there. He proceeded to fill an envelope, asking the entire FOH and BOH for a few dollars each to help the couple. I’m not sure how much we collected for them, but when he presented our offering, they were speechless. The couple’s friend, a grown man, broke down in tears. Even Cobler admitted to getting choked up at the scene. No reciprocity was expected, Cobler would not accept their tip; all he wanted to do was help them through a tough time. It was a blessing to watch.” –James Schell

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

3 1/2 years

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

The flexibility it allows for in my schedule so that I can be home in the afternoons with my daughter, and of course, the people. I work with some really great people.

Tell me about one of your favorite moments at KLC.

The most meaningful was the situation with the elderly couple whose house burned down. Having the opportunity to help someone through a tragedy with which I had first hand experience was very gratifying.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you to give great service to guests.

I’m a father to my 3 1/2 year old daughter and a student. The motivation to give great service comes from personal pride in what I do. I believe that whatever you choose to do, you should strive to be the best at it.

Are there any skills you use as a team member here at Kerbey that come in handy during everyday life?

The ability to deal with all types of people – whether it be a customer or a coworker.

What’s your favorite pancake flavor?

Buttermilk. I’m all about the classics.

What’s your spirit animal?

A tiger. (Symbolizes willpower, personal strength and courage.)

The ability to travel to another planet.

March Service Star

Community Service Star: Brooke Tschoepe

Find her at: our Round Rock location

“Brooke was the first Round Rock Team Member to volunteer her time and effort to a Kerbey Lane supported event, even before working a shift at the Round Rock location! Her selfless and outgoing nature, which have allowed her to advance into store leadership, have proved to suit her well in assisting with every volunteer outing we have participated in at Round Rock to-date. In many ways Brooke embodies KLC’s Core Values and has proven herself as someone I know I can count on, not only to support our philanthropic endeavors personally, but also to spread the word about what we do, just how we can help so many others, and to give a firsthand perspective on the experiences had at each of the different volunteer outings. Brooke, thank you so much for your support and positive energy!” –Mark Capehart

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

It will be one year on March 4.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

There are so many things! I have to say the people, not just the employees, but everyone I come into contact with. I enjoy the company culture and the sense of community – it’s really powerful.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you as a volunteer.

I enjoy bringing people together for a common cause. KLC provides a lot of opportunities for employees to volunteer and you get to meet so many people who care about the same things you do. It’s inspiring to see everyone working together.

What causes do you care most about?

Causes that are geared toward helping children and animals are those I care about most because children and animals cannot advocate for themselves.

Why do you believe it’s important to volunteer?

Because I can—I have the time, energy and capability, therefore I should.

Why do you think Kerbey Lane makes giving back one of its priorities?

Because KLC really cares. It’s more than just a restaurant and just a job – it’s about bettering our community and giving guests the best experience possible.

Are there any skills you use as team member at Kerbey that come in handy during volunteer projects?

I am a Store Leader and that leadership really helps in how to determine the best, most effective way to do things and motivate others to get involved.

What is your spirit animal?

A giraffe. They’re majestic, beautiful, unique and very adaptable creatures.

Congratulations to our March Service Stars!
