May Service Stars

Each month Kerbey Lane Cafe honors two Service Stars. These are team members who exemplify the KLC core values, who lend an extra helping hand, and who are all ‘round awesome people. They are certainly worthy of a spot on our blog. Check them out!

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

It's been a little over two years.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

I would have to say it's all of the knowledge and experience I've gained between attending huddles, The Great Game [of Business], and running the floor day to day.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you as a volunteer.

I'm Austin born and raised so it's a great feeling to be able to give back to the community that brought me up. Also, it's pretty cool to meet your extended Kerbey family.

What causes do you care most about?

I’m a big fan of the rebel cause and destroying the empire.

Which volunteer opportunity that Kerbey has offered have you enjoyed the most?

I really enjoyed going to Urban Roots. It's amazing to see all the work that it takes to produce the amount of food they do.

Why do you think Kerbey Lane makes giving back one of its priorities?

Well, Austin and surrounding communities are what keeps Kerbey alive and well. I think it helps show how appreciative we are.

If you could meet one person, who would it be?

Danny Devito or Ghengis Khan, both seem to have lived pretty interesting lives.

Favorite pancake flavor?

Elvis. We need more bacon in more pancakes.

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

It will be four years on May 8.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

The people, hands down. Employees, customers, management, people from Corporate; I really enjoy all the people at Kerbey.

Tell me about one of your favorite moments at Kerbey.

One night we were super slammed and had a massive thunderstorm came through and the lights went out–one of those scary springtime Texas thunderstorms. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to be having a lot of fun with it.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you to give great service to guests.

I like to wait on people the way I like to be waited on. I’ve been in the restaurant industry for 27 years, and taking care of people is what I do. I not only make sure they enjoy the food but that they enjoy the service as well.

Are there any skills you use as a team member here at Kerbey that come in handy during everyday life?

Absolutely–communication. I find that when I’m nice and genuine in my everyday interactions with people, most of the time I get that same response in return.

What’s your favorite pancake flavor?

Anything vegan.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

I would be able to control the weather and create storms all the time–my daughter and I love crazy weather.

What’s your spirit animal?

A dog. I’ve had dogs since I was a little boy and they’re my favorite. Dogs…they’re good people.

Congratulations to our May Service Stars!
