April Service Stars

Each month Kerbey Lane Cafe honors two Service Stars. These are team members who exemplify the KLC core values, who lend an extra helping hand, and who are all ‘round awesome people. They are certainly worthy of a spot on our blog. Check them out!

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

Two years

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

My favorite thing about working at Kerbey is all the different people I get to meet. I've made lasting relationships with many of my team members and guests over the past two years. The people bring the energy, and the energy at Kerbey Lane Rock Creek is awesome!

Tell us a little about yourself; what motivates you as a volunteer?

I'm always interested in helping people and the community, whether it's spreading the word about an important issue or doing hands-on work with people in need. Knowing I can help others in the community is a great feeling.

What causes do you care most about?

I like causes that have to do with animals, like the Austin Humane Society. I'm the type of girl that pulls over for any stray I see. I love how they actually care for animals and give each one a chance.

Which Kerbey Lane Cafe volunteer opportunity/event have you enjoyed the most? Why?

One of the opportunities i enjoyed the most was a couple months back when Hurricane Harvey had just hit and Kerbey was donating $1from every Crispy Chicken Benedict sold to the victims. Houston is my hometown. I was working a bunch at that time and it felt so good to be able to give back while I was simply doing my job. I really think that says a lot about Kerbey's culture and how they care for not only their community, but others many miles away.

What is your favorite KLC pancake?

Banana Nut Chocolate Chip Swirl

If you could have one super power, what would it be? How would you use it?

Teleportation! I would save money and never be late.

What is your spirit animal and why?

My spirit animal is a dog. Im super loyal to my loved ones and would take a bullet for them.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

The way everyone (front of house, back of house, managers) works as a team and really goes out of their way to help each other.

Tell us about one of your most memorable service moments at Kerbey Lane Cafe.

I really enjoy early mornings, when it's been just a few of us on the floor–particularly working with Eric, Frank and Mot. Eric is the consummate section buddy, always refilling your guest's coffees and helping out, and Mot seems to know everyone. He will share an anecdote about each person that arrives at Kerbey–greeting guest after guest by name. It's a wonderful thing to be able to work alongside them both!

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you to give great service to guests.

I try to treat all my tables as if they were family–the way I hope someone would treat my mother when she goes out to eat. I try to work hard and give the kind of service I would like to receive, regardless of the outcome. And then I try to do even better the next day.

Are there any skills you use as a team member at Kerbey that come in handy during everyday life?

I'm a big proponent of mise-en-place (everything in its place). Even when you're busy, taking a second to think about what you need to do and how to accomplish it efficiently will save you time, every time. This type of planning ahead nicely dovetails at work and in everyday life.

What is your favorite KLC pancake?

Without a doubt the blueberry swirl pancake

If you could have one super power, what would it be? How would you use it?

Ugh. Whatever I would choose would only come back to hurt me somehow–O. Henry style. So I'm only certain choosing a super power wouldn't be worth it, and I would use it...badly.

What is your spirit animal and why?

Grackle. Grackle ain't got no boss.

Congratulations to our April Service Stars!
