Community Service Star: Alex Hood

Find him at: our UT location

"In the 5 months I have worked with Alex, he has attended several volunteer events and is always willing to help out during any event. He is a hard worker and has the best personality; being around him is so much fun! During the Ronald McDonald House event on St. Patrick’s Day, he did a great job with the kiddos from Webb Middle School. He was making eggs, cutting fruit, cleaning up, and asking if anyone else needed help with their station—he seemed to be everywhere and did a wonderful job! I appreciate all of his hard work, both at the UT location and the volunteer events."–Alexis Salazar

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

About 5 months.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

The people – I love my coworkers, they’re really great people.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you as a volunteer.

I moved from Vermont about 2 1/2 years ago and I was looking for opportunities to connect with people in my new community. I find volunteering to be really rewarding.

What causes do you care most about?

Those pertaining to helping the environment and children.

Why do you believe it’s important to volunteer?

What better way to spend my spare time than helping out others? I believe that if I have the means to volunteer, then I should. It’s a great way to support your community and engage with likeminded individuals.

Why do you think Kerbey Lane makes giving back one of its priorities?

Kerbey Lane came from modest beginnings and giving back is their way of saying “thank you” to a community that helped them to achieve so much success.

Are there any skills you use as team member at Kerbey that come in handy during volunteer projects?

Definitely communication. Whether it’s in the kitchen, on the floor, or during a volunteer project, it’s important to be able to effectively communicate.

What is your spirit animal?

As a former Vermontian, I will say it’s a moose! (Symbolizes self-esteem and courage.)

Congratulations to our April Service Stars!
