Featured Artist: Brianna Auguste

Meet Featured Artist, Brianna Auguste!

Auguste's artwork is on display now until March 5 at our University location, 2606 Guadalupe St.

Auguste was born in Houston, but she considers herself a native Austinite. At the age of 18, she very well may be the youngest individual Featured Artist to grace the walls of Kerbey Lane!

The eldest of three sisters, Auguste and her siblings have always been creative types and all three play musical instruments. Although always having been artistically inclined, Auguste didn't set out to have a career in fine art and she has never attended any formal classes.

After graduating from high school at the age of 16, Auguste told us she was undecided about whether or not to enroll in art school and ultimately chose not to. "College is not my thing," said Auguste. "I just want to be a freelance artist and have my own business someday. My ideas aren’t conducive to getting a 'normal' job."

Further schooling hasn't been completely ruled out, as Auguste said there is a possibility she would attend in the future to pursue a business degree. "There's a very creative side of me and then there's a very logical side. I'm trying to find a balance between the two," she explained.

Auguste's work is inspired by fantasy, mysticism, and childhood nostalgia. She enjoys creating fantasy worlds and gravitates toward things that are feminine and glittery, which are reflections of her own personality. Her goal is to evoke some kind of emotion in those who view her work.

Mixed media is Auguste's preferred medium. She works with acrylic paints, epoxy resin, scrapbooking paper, glitter, gold leaf, and other objects. She has also experimented with watercolor and oil paints.

In the past, Auguste has shown her work at Adelbert's Brewery and other art markets around the city. Currently, she has a job at Michaels doing custom framing, which is where she heard about the opportunity to show her work at Kerbey Lane from another artist shopping for canvases in the store.

In the future, Auguste would love to transition to being a full-time artist. For now, her plan is to just keep painting and see what develops.

When she's not creating art and working a job, Auguste enjoys playing the piano, writing music, and spending time in nature. Occasionally she will take her supplies outdoors, to places like Bull Creek, because water is her favorite natural element to paint.

You can see more of Auguste's artwork at or on her Facebook and Instagram profiles. All of her works displayed at Kerbey Lane Cafe are for sale. Questions for Brianna? Send her an email.
