July Service Stars

Each month Kerbey Lane Cafe honors two Service Stars. These are team members who exemplify the KLC core values, who lend an extra helping hand, and who are all ‘round awesome people. They are certainly worthy of a spot on our blog. Check them out!

Service Star Team Member: Christian Patino

Find him at: our S. Lamar location

“Christian is a rock star! He's always ready for his shift and moves with a sense of haste. His positive attitude makes him a great team member to work with. As an expeditor, he’s great at spotting mistakes and I appreciate when he comes to us to verify orders or address any questions from the kitchen.” –Logan Mathes

A little over 2 years.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

My coworkers, and the fact that there is opportunity for advancement.

Tell me about one of your favorite moments at KLC.

Once when my family was visiting Kerbey Lane, Mason (CEO) showed up. He told my family that they should be very proud of me. That will always stick with me.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you to give great service to guests.

I like to draw in my free time, and I hope to open my own restaurant one day. Working hard/having good work ethic is something I value, and not for the recognition. I feel pride in a job well done.

Are there any skills you use as a team member here at Kerbey that come in handy during everyday life?

Social skills, for sure. And working expo is like a brain exercise, so that keeps me on my toes!

What’s your favorite pancake flavor?

Vegan vanilla with a cinnamon swirl.

Tell us a little-known fact about you.

I have been working in the restaurant industry since the age of 12 and I can say that I genuinely enjoy my job!

Community Service Star: Mary Boatwright

Find her at: our Southwest location

“In the short time I was at the Southwest location, Mary blew me away with her desire to help the community. Not only did she take advantage of every volunteer opportunity, she also quickly established herself as a leader. During a trip to Mendez Middle School Mary absolutely rocked it! She was such a natural working with the kids and kept everyone involved in learning about nutrition. She has a big heart and really cares, and her dedication has inspired everyone at her store.” –John Fahy

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

Since May of 2015.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

The community aspect. We all have different interests, but we’re likeminded in the way we come together for a common cause.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you as a volunteer.

Ultimately I want to give back to people that haven’t been supported in the same ways that I have. My long-term goals include educating and helping others, and Kerbey Lane is helping to prepare me for that next step.

What causes do you care most about?

Sustainable agriculture and education. When these two things are combined they can really transform a community.

Why do you believe it’s important to volunteer?

It makes me feel good to give back. And on the receiving end, to know that someone cares enough to volunteer their time is really special. My family relocated to Austin from New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and if it weren’t for those that who so selflessly helped us, we wouldn’t have been able to recover as quickly as we did.

Why do you think Kerbey Lane makes giving back one of its priorities?

Kerbey is a local company that supports local suppliers and is founded on community. By getting their team members involved in the community they can continue to perpetuate and expand upon their original mission.

Are there any skills you use as team member at Kerbey that come in handy during volunteer projects?

Patience, observation skills, and common sense.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

I’ve always wanted to have the ability to fly. I believe that a change in perspective can make a all the difference—and be able to fly would certainly provide a new perspective!

Congratulations to our July Service Stars!
