March Service Stars

Each month Kerbey Lane Cafe honors two Service Stars. These are team members who exemplify the KLC core values, who lend an extra helping hand, and who are all ‘round awesome people. They are certainly worthy of a spot on our blog. Check them out!

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

2 years

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

I love working at Kerbey because of the people. I've never been at a service industry job where I worked with a lot of the people I started with two years later. It says a lot about the culture of Kerbey as a whole and especially "Bestlake".

Tell us a little about yourself; what motivates you as a volunteer?

Helping people always makes me feel good. Giving up a couple hours of my life to someone or an organization that really needs it is fulfilling and usually fun. It's also a good place to meet people from all the Kerbeys and the Restaurant Support Center (RSC).

What causes do you care most about?

I like local causes that help people who live here, like Urban Roots. They make a difference by not only providing food for people who need it, but also jobs and a place for kids to get away from situations they don't want to be in at home.

Which Kerbey Lane Cafe volunteer opportunity/event have you enjoyed the most? Why?

Honestly half of my volunteering events have involved building a shed for some reason. Gibson and I once stayed at an elementary school for an extra two hours after the event was over so we could get one finished. I love building stuff and the staff was so grateful to us that it made the whole thing a ton of fun.

What is your favorite KLC pancake?

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Swirl

If you could have one superpower, what would it be? How would you use it?

I'd be able to teleport, mostly to save money on flights, but also it would be great to go see family more often and check out places where I've never been.

What is your spirit animal and why?

A bear. Bears are awesome for a lot of reasons. They're fighters when they need to be and totally docile and goofy when they don't. They're intelligent and loyal to their family, and they protect what's important to them.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

The best part of working at Kerbey Lane is all the people–they're all super nice and fun to work with.

Tell us about one of your most memorable service moments at Kerbey Lane Cafe.

When I first became a server I had this table, and they were having a bad day. I felt determined to make their day better. So I offered a free brownie sundae to help ease their pain and it seemed to cheer them up.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you to give great service to guests.

I'm a hard worker and like to help out as much as I can.

Are there any skills you use as a team member at Kerbey that come in handy during everyday life?

I've had some communication improvement since I've become a server. I'm more confident when talking to people both at work and outside of work. Also, when I get double sat I need to stay calm and not get overwhelmed, which has helped me to become a strong problem solver.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be? How would you use it?

Telekinesis. I would use this power as often as possible, but mostly at work.

What is your spirit animal and why?

A dog because I'm loyal and would do anything for my friends and family.

Congratulations to our March Service Stars!
