May Service Stars

Each month Kerbey Lane Cafe honors two Service Stars. These are team members who exemplify the KLC core values, who lend an extra helping hand, and who are all ‘round awesome people. They are certainly worthy of a spot on our blog. Check them out!

Service Star Team Member: Molly Flynn

Find her at: our Central location

“Molly always does an amazing job! She consistently goes above and beyond during her shifts, helping bus tables, helping servers, and getting guests whatever they need. She is friendly and keeps it positive no matter what gets thrown her way. She is a great asset to our team and a pleasure to work with.” – Coe Selgestad

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

A little over 3 months.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

It’s a combination of everyone I work with, and the environment. It’s a professional environment, but everyone is relaxed and it’s just a nice place to be. It’s like a big family.

Tell me about one of your favorite moments at KLC.

I enjoy being able to lend a helping hand to others when they get really busy. And when I have down time I love chatting with the guests and getting to hear their stories. I often end up learning something!

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you to give great service to guests.

I just graduated from UT as a film major, and I’ve learned that the best way to succeed is to do more than what is expected. I genuinely want to do a good job, and I like knowing that people feel comfortable coming to me for help.

Are there any skills you use as a team member here at Kerbey that come in handy during everyday life?

Yes, I’ve learned to be more observant. People aren’t always going to tell you if they need something, but if you are observant, you can get a sense of what they need. In everyday life it’s helpful to be aware of the subtleties of non-verbal communication.

What’s your favorite pancake flavor?

Buttermilk. Second place would be chocolate chip, because I’m a child at heart.

What’s your spirit animal?

A cat. I like cats. They like to sleep a lot and they’re skeptically curious.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

I would probably choose invisibility. I think that would be a fun way to go through life, being a fly on the wall.

Community Service Star: José González

Find him at: our Northwest location

“José González. The man, the myth, the legend! José has been such an inspiration for our group of volunteers. He has volunteered at every single event I have had available. José’s crazy hair, willingness to help, and infectious positive attitude are some of his best attributes. Every time we are at a volunteer event he has a huge smile on his face, which tells everyone around him how much he loves giving his time and energy to people who are in need. He is a selfless, serving, super slamming, slaptastic, synergistic, spectacular, superstar!” –Collin Whiting

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

Almost a year and a half.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

Definitely the atmosphere and the teamwork. Everyone here is sharing good vibes.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you as a volunteer.

Love is ultimately what I think should motivate people and I enjoy sharing my love and helping out in any way that I can. Making a lasting, positive impact on another person’s life is what drives me to volunteer.

What causes do you care most about?

I enjoy working with kids and causes that impact people’s health. I think it’s important to shape people positively, especially kids.

Why do you believe it’s important to volunteer?

Being selfless is really cool. It’s important to do things for others without the expectation of receiving something in return. It’s rewarding, both intrinsically and karmically.

Why do you think Kerbey Lane makes giving back one of its priorities?

Because KLC has strong local roots and they want to give back to the community that has helped them to be so successful. KLC is a strong, positive force within the Austin community, beyond just being a business.

Are there any skills you use as team member at Kerbey that come in handy during volunteer projects?

The most valuable skill that comes in handy is communication. When you’re communicating effectively, everything runs smoothly and feels more cohesive.

What is your spirit animal?

A brown bear. To me the bear symbolizes my desire to help the world, and I have the ability to be brave while remaining soft and cuddly.

Congratulations to our May Service Stars!
