October Service Stars

Each month Kerbey Lane Cafe honors two Service Stars. These are team members who exemplify the KLC core values, who lend an extra helping hand, and who are all ‘round awesome people. They are certainly worthy of a spot on our blog. Check them out!

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

Two years.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

The people. My fellow team members are always willing to lend a helping hand.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you as a volunteer.

I moved to Austin from Atlanta, GA two years ago. My brother had worked at Kerbey Lane and loved it, so that’s why I applied. I immediately fell in love with this city and wanted to give back to my community.

What causes do you care most about?

Any cause where people have an urgent need, especially those people who were born into unfortunate circumstances. Being able to make an immediate impact in someone else’s life is rewarding.

Which volunteer opportunity that Kerbey has offered have you enjoyed the most?

I love helping out at Urban Roots. The farm is so peaceful and the work is a lot of fun.

What’s your favorite pancake flavor?

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Swirl

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Telekinesis–the ability to move things with my mind would be really a useful skill as a server!

How long have you worked at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

1 1/2 years.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey Lane Cafe?

I love working late nights because I get to laugh and be myself. The customers coming into Kerbey at that time make this place feel like its own Comedy Central show.

Tell us about one of your most memorable moments at Kerbey.

I enjoy working the counter most, because it allows for more in-depth interaction with guests, and I enjoy hearing their stories.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you to give great service to guests.

I am a native Austinite, who is a mom by day and server by night. I’ve been in the service industry a long time and I’m instantly at ease with people. I like to approach waiting tables as if I’m serving guests in my own home.

Are there any skills you use as a team member here at Kerbey that come in handy during everyday life?

Time management and the ability to prioritize effectively.

What’s your favorite pancake flavor?

Blueberry Lemon Poppy Seed Swirl

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

I would have a limitless supply of good luck.

Congratulations to our October Service Stars!
