September Service Stars

Each month Kerbey Lane Cafe honors two Service Stars. These are team members who exemplify the KLC core values, who lend an extra helping hand, and who are all ‘round awesome people. They are certainly worthy of a spot on our blog. Check them out!

How long have you worked at Kerbey?

I worked as a host five years ago and I returned as a server this past January.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey?

The people. I like stories, and Kerbey is a very story-rich environment.

Tell us about one of your favorite moments at Kerbey.

I’ll never forget how proud of myself I was after successfully serving a 20-top of teenagers who all requested separate checks. It was something that seemed insurmountable at the time, and now it’s no big deal.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what motivates you to provide great service to guests.

I live by the phrase, “Do unto others as you would have them to unto you.” I also take a lot of pride in what it is we do here and want to represent Kerbey as best I can.

Are there any skills you use as a team member here at Kerbey that come in handy during everyday life?

Humility and humor.

What’s your favorite pancake flavor?

Blackberry. Bring it back!

What is your Spirit Animal?

A raccoon. They’re cute, devious little creatures. I identify with their nocturnal and non-confrontational nature.

How long have you worked at Kerbey?

Three years.

What is your favorite thing about working at Kerbey?

Kerbey is a company that brings together a lot of different personalities. My favorite thing has to be the people. I have met so many amazing friends over the past three years and we’ve created a work family.

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivates you as a volunteer.

I’m pursuing a social work degree. My whole purpose in life is to give back and working for a company that allows me to do so is amazing. I appreciate the variety of volunteer events offered—it keeps things interesting.

What causes do you care most about?

I really enjoy volunteering with United Way, especially when we go to Mendez Middle School’s monthly Friday events. I absolutely love working with kids; getting to teach them something or encouraging them to try something new – it’s always great to see their growth.

Why do you believe it’s important to volunteer?

It’s important to volunteer because it’s important to give back. In the world we live in today, I think it’s important to realize what you have and think about how you can help someone less fortunate.

Why do you think Kerbey makes giving back one of its priorities?

Kerbey has the resources to create these programs and include its employees. Kerbey partakes in a wide variety of outreach efforts—we want to show that we not only have great food, but we have great people working here that want to help out.

Are there any skills you use as team member at Kerbey that come in handy during volunteer projects?

As a trainer, I am always helping others by inspiring them to connect with things in a way that works best for them. It’s important to remember we all come from different backgrounds – different causes mean more to different people.

What is your Spirit Animal?

A polar bear because I’m from up North. They are majestic, protective and fierce.

Congratulations to our September Service Stars!
